Food Rescue Volunteer Drivers who carefully drive WayForward vehicles to pick up food from local retail food partners and unload the food at WayForward will help make these critical donations available to community members who need help keeping food on the table.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent WayForward values at all times including when interacting with retail food rescue donors
- Safely drive, load, unload, and park the WayForward truck or van, as needed
- Work as part of a team to complete all tasks in a safe manner (including team lifting)
- Follow established procedures and the direction of the Food Access Manager
REQUIREMENTS:
- No previous experience is required though some experience driving a large truck is ideal (a special license is not required to drive the WayForward truck or van)
- Current driver’s license with at least 5 years of driving experience
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Able to regularly lift 40+ pounds
- Willingness to become trained on a manual/electric pallet jack and the liftgate on the WayForward truck
- Able to stand and walk throughout the shift
- Commitment to WayForward values including dignity, racial equity, inclusion

Responsibilities include:
- Sort and stock food donations during open pantry hours
- Provide shopping assistance to pantry guests, as requested
- Offer emergency food bags, if needed
- Collect donations
The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.
Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for guests accessing WayForward’s food pantry by:
- Warmly welcoming food pantry guests, explaining the pantry flow, and offering assistance, as needed
- Assist with other food pantry tasks, as needed and as time allows
The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.
Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for guests accessing WayForward’s food pantry by:
- Warmly greet food pantry guests when they are ready to check out
- Measure and record food weight for each guest when they have completed their shopping
- Assist guests to their vehicles, if needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work station
- Assist with other food pantry tasks, as needed

Help ensure that WayForward’s food pantry inventory is augmented, maintained, organized, and safe so that guests can receive the nutrition they need to thrive.
You will join an experienced team of volunteers to:
- Sweep and/or floors
- Vacuum rugs
- Wipe down surfaces
- Other tasks, as needed

PREREQUISITES
- No previous experience is required
- Must be 16+ years of age
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
